Snow in Manchester

E-mail Print PDF

Bwoy, what a beautiful sight it was this morning to wake up to a shower of snow... I took the liberty of sharing this moment in the picture below... See how beautiful it looks... But do not be fooled!! This stuff is dangerous!! Oh my days, the amount of people I saw break-dancing on the street on the ice - amazing! And not to mention the useless grip cars have when this stuff falls down... I saw an ambulance, with it's sirens blazing - travelling at 30 mph!! Now, these machines usually go whizzing past us at some break-neck speeds... The world was definitely slower-moving today...

PS: Ignore the sign on the picture about the Police... My area is really not bad at all... It's an OLD sign that obviously they've forgotten to take down... :-)

Pig Flu (aka Swine Flu)

E-mail Print PDF

Bwoy, what an interesting week I have had...

Come last week, I woke up on Wednesday with this massive thirst!! Irregardless of the copious amounts of water that I drank, the parching was never quenched!! From then on, the day went downhill. By the end of the day, I was in a state of eternal shivering. I got home, hugged the radiator like I have never done before  - and still felt cold. Wana had been planning a 'shin-dig'  that evening, so I needed to make sure that I was there.

A couple of hours later, the terrible feeling was not going away and started to feel much, much worse! Anyways, what followed was a night of coldness, hallucination and body-aches. The following morning, I spoke with the NHS Pandemic Helpline, who confirmed that I have Swine-flu. It was accompanied by bright yellow phlegm (eewwww, I know...) and a runny nose! Thank goodness I did not experience the diarrhoea. A couple of Tamiflu tablets later, I felt much, much better - only to be attacked by a wave of cold sores on my lips. (Info: Did you know, cold sores are caused by a virus called herpes simplex 1 or 2 HSV-1/HSV-2). Now, now, let's not confuse this type of oral herpes with the other kind of herpes we are most familiar with...

Cut a long story short - I am better now, but still have a bunged-up nose and cold sores! Oh, oh, oh, not to forget the tickly cough that keeps me awake quite a lot!

Week of Prayer Lunch

E-mail Print PDF

Today, after church, I was blessed with a marvelous meal and company in the form of the guest speaker from California, Pastor Rudolph Peters. I found myself sitting on a table at the Mercers' and the food in front of me just looked delicious.

Have a look at this picture for a taster of what I actually tasted...

The food was fantastic!!! Same time next week guys? :-)

The NEW iMac....

E-mail Print PDF

Faster processors.

Quad-core power.

The available quad-core Intel Core i5 or Core i7 “Nehalem” processor in the 27-inch iMac puts four processing cores on one die, so data doesn’t have to travel far to get from core to core. This boosts application performance up to 2x over the previous-generation iMac.1 And unlike systems that connect memory to the processor through a separate controller, these quad-core processors connect memory directly to the processor, improving memory bandwidth up to 2.5x.

Turbo Boost.

A quad-core iMac also benefits from Turbo Boost. If you’re using an application that doesn’t need every core, Turbo Boost shuts off the idle cores while simultaneously increasing the speed of the active ones.

Built for more cores.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is designed to take advantage of this advanced processor architecture, so every Intel processor reaches its full potential on iMac.

Faster graphics.

Options for everyone.

iMac offers graphics options designed to make the most of every pixel. Whether you’re an amateur filmmaker or an avid gamer, iMac gives you faster, smoother, clearer graphics across the board.

Start with advanced graphics.

The 21.5-inch iMac offers great graphics performance with the integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor or the ATI Radeon HD 4670. The 27-inch iMac comes with dedicated high-performance ATI graphics across the line.

Upgrade to top-of-the-line graphics.

The ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor delivers up to 4x faster performance than the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M — ideal for 3D games and graphics-intensive applications. For the ultimate in graphics performance, choose a 27-inch iMac with the ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics processor.

Blackberry OS 5.0

E-mail Print PDF

Official List of Devices Supporting OS 5.0

Been wondering if the BlackBerry Smartphone you already own will be getting the OS 5.0 update everybody keeps talking about? We knew there would be a cut-off somewhere down the road of older device models and it turns out we were pretty spot on with our hunches. but now we officially know which devices are getting the update thanks to a new knowledge base article on BlackBerry's website. Keep reading to see if your device made the cut.

Supported BlackBerry Smartphones with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0

  • BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8200 series smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8350i smartphones
  • BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphones
  • BlackBerry Storm 9500 series smartphones
  • BlackBerry Tour 9630 smartphones

So what was the ulimate kill point? Memory. According to the article:

In order to optimize the BlackBerry smartphone user experience with BlackBerry Device Software 5.0, BlackBerry smartphones must have more than 64MB of memory to support this version of BlackBerry Device Software. BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 is targeted to be supported by Research In Motion on the above noted BlackBerry smartphones.

In the case of the BlackBerry Curve 8330, it looks like having to wait a year to get the device after the Curve was originally released paid off. The Curve 8330 has 96MB of flash memory vs. 64 in the Curve 8300, 8310, 8320. I could see it being easy to get mad if you currently are using a BlackBerry that won't get the update (especially if you recently picked up a Curve 8310/8320), but really, it just doesn't make sense to upgrade to something that'll bog your device down. At least the Bold 9700 and Storm2 are just around the corner if you're thinking it's time for an upgrade.
